When to Change Your Job

When to Change Your Job
In today’s dynamic business environment, despite all the turbulence around, the marketplace is expanding rapidly. The obvious consequence of this scenario is that the number of jobs available has multiplied ten-fold. This also means that opportunities available for young professionals are on the rise. Very often the most common reason for people changing jobs is that they are being offered better salaries & perks. However this is a very short-term perspective as in most cases salaries tend to plateau over a period of time in one’s career. Whilst job-hopping is quite rampant and professionals enjoy this advantageous position they are in, let us consider the following suggestions as yardsticks to decide whether you need to change our jobs or not.

A] Unsatisfactory Job Role:

It very often happens that certain jobs in certain companies are very monotonous and boring. As a result of this, the individual becomes frustrated and indifferent at work. It may be that the job content and the individual’s understanding of the same may be different. In such situations, the individual feels that his potentials are wasted and his contribution declining. Whilst questioning why he accepted such a job in the first place, it may be true that he was not given the correct picture by the recruiters. This being the situation, the mismatch needs to be undone by changing one’s job. Yet many individuals prefer to stay back despite the above only because the current job offers ample job security.

B] Challenging assignments on the new job:

It often happens that individuals develop / blossom on the job and thus realize their TRUE POTENTIAL; they gradually realize their core competencies. Unfortunately it is also often true that their current companies are unable to benefit out of this. They may be constrained to offer these people faster growth because of company policies, existence of more senior people and such. Thus, such restless individuals start searching for opportunities in other organizations. Many individuals in fact find jobs in smaller organizations more challenging, as it is broad based and offer a variety of tasks to perform. Many executives are also fascinated by the concept of job rotations as it gives them an opportunity to learn about a new functional area of management. In contrast, very often, in larger organizations, jobs are some times overspecialized and have rigid limits. Thus, people often leave for more challenging assignments and better quality of work.

C] Better Opportunities for Learning and Self Development :

Many organizations have a deep-rooted commitment for the development of human resources and invest a lot of money in the same.At the same time there are also many companies who unfortunately do not share this philosophy. Thus, individuals are attracted to such companies where HRD is a priority area, because they feel that the exposure is better and thus growth prospects are better. Besides, in these companies better exposure is assured Vis good work culture, mentoring, foreign visits, meetings with parent companies, regular training updates and such. Here, as a result of better organization values and work culture /climate the individual not only benefits, but is able to contribute more to his job and company and also derive satisfaction from the same.

D] Lack Of Managerial Support:

It is often true that many individuals change jobs because of bad working environment and poor infrastructure support on the job. This could be due to the poor support from the boss, restrictive company policies and such. There are still many people who hate to allow others to grow and enjoy “pulling them down”. Such a work environment may create frustrations, on-performance and demotivation. It would be sensible in such situations to gradually change your organization and seek a better company. It is true that we can never choose our bosses but at least we may be second time lucky! Similarly, if the company’s performance were on the decline and deteriorating continuously, it would be sensible to quit at the earliest possible opportunity.
Of course, there is no need to panic but yet moving out is most prudent and sensible option.

E)Personal Reasons

We often come across people who cite personal reasons to justify their job change. Some of these reasons include location preferences, the need to be in a metro city so that the children get better education, the spouse’s job is transferable, citing reasons of ill health of a near & dear one, availability of good part time studies in the some cities and so on. Whilst these are personal issues let us appreciate that the above may be acceptable once in a way as reasons but not always. Infact being rigid on the above over a period of time may also impede growth opportunities.

A Question most fast trackers try to answer is about the frequency Of Job Changes. However in the absence of a clear answer, a lot of debate continues on the frequency of job change. The answers range from six monthly changes to once in a 3-4 years. Let us accept that there are no magical answers to such questions. Further, job change is best initiated if any of the above discussed it true in your organization / work-life. It is true that some have benefited by regular job-hopping but it is also equally true that many have succeeded and done well by staying on. Thus, choose your company with care, do your best and change only if needed. It is more important to remember that your commitment to your current / existing organization should never be questionable. Further, when you leave the company, people should bid you good-bye SADLY and not GLADLY!!!

Well Planned Duty Rosters - Key To Staff Satisfaction

How difficult it is to work in a hotel considering it is a very demanding 24-hour occupation where you have to put on a smile even if it is your birthday and you may be on a double duty, even if your child is writhing in pain due to high fever at home and your shift reliever has not turned up for the night, a smile even if you have just received a call from home saying your child has flunked his final exam. Yes! Working in a hotel means a lot of passion and you are required to work whole heartedly or else there are bound to be unhappy customers.
Considering all members of the staff have families and personal lives to take care of, it will not be wrong to say that a major part of employee dissatisfaction stems from lack of time for oneself and clashing of similar interests among team members which can be minimised through well planned duty rosters. The key step is planning, so lets explore the various factors to keep in mind when planning and how best to accomodate staff needs.

Excellent article on cancer. Pass it on.
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND
ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE
IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins:
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies.. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6.. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size.. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from Chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses
but only in very sma ll amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with Cancer.
d. A diet made of 80%
Fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to no urish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at Temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C)..
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties.Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of
cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the
body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a
loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular
level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life.

Prachanda - hero or villain?

The recent public appearance in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, of Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, alias Prachanda, led to much excitement. But for some, it is ironic that a man who has led a ruthless war that took the lives of 13,000 people is being treated like a hero. For many others, he is a hero, who has given a voice to millions of downtrodden people in one of the poorest countries in the world.
So is he a hero or villain?
Demands
When Prachanda launched an armed rebellion in 1996, Nepal had just restored multi-party democracy after 30 years of direct rule by the king. A peaceful people's uprising in 1990 had forced the then King Birendra to become a constitutional monarch and after a smooth transition, a new constitution was written and democratically elected leaders were in power Despite concerns about corruption, democracy was slowly taking root.
Schools, roads and bridges were being built and businesses were expanding.
Though records have fluctuated, the GDP growth rate in 1995/96, when the Maoists began their insurgency, was 5.4%, an encouraging figure for Nepal. The immediate reason given by the Maoists for the declaration of war was that the government rejected their demands "without giving them any attention". Many of those demands related to political and social reforms which most Nepalis would find acceptable.
However, few agree that the government's rejection of the demands was enough reason to declare a war which has caused Nepal enormous suffering.
Violence and intimidation
Accurate independent figures about the economic costs of war are not available. However, according to Finance Minister Ramsharan Mahat, the damage to infrastructure alone amounted to $246m - around 15% of Nepal's current annual budget. The Maoists have used threats, extortion and killings to get their way. They have killed poor, innocent people and those who have criticised their top leaders. The war has encouraged and spread a culture of intimidation and violence, which is bound to have a long-term impact in a society which was credited for peace and harmony.Prachanda and others have defended these tactics, arguing that during war such incidents do occur and that they regret mistakes.
Many find it difficult to agree. They argue that Prachanda and many top Maoist leaders are, in fact, more feudal and hypocritical than those whom they regard as such.
There appears to be some truth in this.
'Well-fed' rebel
Prachanda speaks passionately about the need to dismantle feudal structures to create a proletarian society but he has remained quiet about his own elevation as a demi-god by his supporters. The rich and ruling elite in Kathmandu, who the Maoists view as feudal and want to destroy, has been left untouched throughout the war, whereas poor and ordinary villagers have suffered.
After seeing Prachanda's pictures, a teacher at a village school recently told me: "Prachanda looks very well-fed. In fact, his healthy diet is bought from the money extorted from poor people like myself.
"Or else, where does he get the money from?" For Prachanda India was an expansionist foe.
Out of the first nine points in his 40-point demands submitted to the government in 1996, seven were directed against India. However, it has been an established fact that during much of the insurgency both Prachanda and his deputy, Baburam Bhattarai, have spent time in India. There have been credible reports that Indian authorities have covertly co-operated with the Maoists at times. That explains why after the insurgency started they have rarely been critical of India.
'Power of the gun'
This does not mean Prachanda is devoid of virtue. Many middle-class villagers like Prachanda would have preferred an easy route in life. However, he chose a difficult path to pursue his conviction that "power comes from the barrel of the gun". Risking his life, he did derive that power and made the powerful ruling elite of the country realise that they cannot take their privileges for granted. Prachanda claims to have dismantled the feudalistic social structure in the villages under Maoist control. To an extent this is true. There is also a growing awareness about social and political rights in rural Nepal because of the insurgency. For now Prachanda seems to have accepted that there is no alternative to multi-party democracy in Nepal. But many would continue to question whether all the killing and destruction was necessary for him to accept what Nepal's major communist parties accepted a long time ago.
Much will depend on how much he can deliver in Nepal's future political set-up.

Hotel General Manager

In hotels, the General Manager is the executive manager responsible for the overall operation of a hotel establishment. The General Manager holds ultimate authority over the hotel operation and usually reports directly to a corporate office or hotel owner. Common duties of a General Manager include hiring and management of a management team, overall management of hotel staff, budgeting and financial management, creating and enforcing business objectives and goals, managing projects and renovations, management of emergencies and other major issues involving guests, employees, or the facility, public relations with the media, local governments, and other businesses, and many additional duties. The extent of duties of a hotel General Manager vary significantly depending on the size of the hotel and company; for example, General Managers of smaller hotels may have additional duties such as accounting, human resources, payroll, purchasing, and other duties that would usually be handled by other managers or departments in a larger hotel.
