A Day of Reflection and Growth
By

2nd February 2015
Today,
14th February 2015, I woke up with a sense of purpose. It’s my birthday, and as
always, birthdays tend to spark reflection. It’s not just another day—it’s a
day to take stock of where I am and what I have achieved, and most importantly,
how I can grow further.
The
Morning
I
started my day a bit later than usual, at 8 AM, followed by breakfast at 9 AM
in the restaurant. By 9:30 AM, I began my daily rounds of the property with our
Regional General Manager, Shri Anil Singh. Walking through the premises,
interacting with the staff, and inspecting the property—this has always been my
way to stay connected with both the team and the business itself.
The
Celebration
The
highlight of the morning, without a doubt, was a surprise birthday celebration
organized by Mr. Anil Singh and the team at 11 AM. It was unexpected but deeply
appreciated. It reminded me of the importance of maintaining strong personal
connections with those we work with. These moments build trust, loyalty, and
motivation among the team.
Afternoon
Meetings and Visits
At 12:30
PM, I visited the residence of the Tourism Minister, Mr. Dinesh Dhane, for a
brief meeting. It was productive and gave me insight into the broader scope of
tourism in Tehri.
At 1:30
PM, I joined Mr. Singh for a visit to the magnificent Tehri Dam, a symbol of
progress and the potential of our region. This visit brought me back to the
idea of sustainable growth and how we, in the hospitality industry, can align
ourselves with the region’s development while preserving its natural beauty.
Reflecting
on Leadership
By 3:30
PM, I was back at the office, catching up on emails and clearing up pending
tasks. However, something from earlier in the day lingered in my mind—an
interaction with Mr. Abhishek Gosai, our Commis I chef. He was threatening to
resign, frustrated and adamant about leaving his position. It would’ve been
easy to dismiss his threat as an empty gesture, but this was a leadership
moment.
Abhishek’s
situation served as a critical lesson: never be overconfident, either in
yourself or in your team’s stability. He realized by the end of the day that
his threat to resign was hasty and perhaps more driven by emotions than reason.
He came back to me, admitting he didn’t have another job lined up and would
hand in his resignation only once he found one. This incident reinforced the
importance of maintaining calm and composure in leadership, encouraging open
communication, and, most of all, practicing patience.
The
Lesson of the Day
This
leads me to the day’s greatest takeaway: overconfidence can be your downfall.
It applies to both me and my team. It’s easy to let emotions drive our
decisions in moments of frustration, but as leaders, we must stay grounded and
think long-term. Abhishek’s situation made me realize how easily people can
make rash decisions in the heat of the moment. It’s a reminder that we, too,
must constantly check our confidence and ensure it doesn’t tip into arrogance.
Creativity
and Motivation
Birthdays
are a time for reflection and rejuvenation, and today was no different. One
thing that stood out was the importance of creativity. Motivating staff and
fostering creativity has always been key in my leadership style. Today’s
celebration and interactions with the team filled me with new energy, reminding
me how essential it is to inspire those around me. I need to lead not just with
instructions but with vision, passion, and motivation. These are the qualities
that elevate leadership from good to great.
Tomorrow’s
Plan
Looking
ahead, tomorrow will be focused on strategic planning and self-improvement. I
have a few key tasks lined up:
- Developing a Sales
Strategy for the Year – This is essential to ensure we stay ahead in a
competitive market.
- Continuing to Read
"Mega Living" – Personal development is just as important as
business growth. I’ve learned a lot from Robin Sharma’s book and will
continue to implement these lessons in my life.
- Submitting Reports to the
Sales Team – Consistent communication and reporting are vital for
ensuring smooth operations and making data-driven decisions.
Conclusion:
A Day of Learning
Today
has been a reminder that leadership is not about control or authority. It’s
about listening, learning, and continuously striving to be better. I began the
day reflecting on my past year, but I end it focusing on the future—on the
steps I’ll take to become a better leader and a better human being.
Though
my birthday has been a special day, the lessons from today will continue to
shape my journey in the days and years ahead. Leadership, creativity, humility,
and self-awareness will be my guiding principles.
